My Side Table Arrangements
OK, admit it, you’ve been outside clipping evergreens in the winter in your bathrobe. I know I’ve done it million times! I had two arrangements that needed refreshing, so I pulled out everything that I wanted to use again and just needed a few more sprigs of variegated boxwood and osmanthus.
Variegated boxwoods are great shrubs for lighting up shady areas. The one I trimmed branches from grew from a gallon pot into a 4 foot shrub in about 10 years. After Christmas, you can pick up boxwoods, osmanthus and other small evergreens at reduced prices as they are selling them as holiday plants.
I especially wanted to trim some of the golden tips off my Osmanthus ‘Goshiki’ (False Holly). I haven’t noticed golden tips on it before and my other specimens don’t have this coloration.
I reused the branches of my Aronia ‘Brilliantissima’ (Red Chokeberry) and my Callicarpa dichotoma ‘Early Amethyst’ (Beautyberry). Now I have a fresh arrangement to enjoy next to my reading chair on the first day of winter!
Go out and clip some evergreen branches right now and create an arrangement for your enjoyment. No need to get dressed; just make sure you wear a bathrobe and slippers!
